Glasgow LMC works with our secondary Care colleagues on any matter or service development that may impact on primary care.
The LMC represents doctors in their role as providers of medical care and as such raises issues that may have arisen as a result of a hospital consultant action or a change in hospital policy.
With the potential shift of work out of the hospital into primary care it is important that there is a sound and mature relationship between both parties to ensure that there is an understanding around the work implications and that full agreement is reached by all.
Over the years the LMC has been successful in tackling important issues that have affected the GP workload and also patient care.
As part of the Primary Secondary Interface Group, we discuss and action the following:
- Accuracy of patient discharge letters.
- Communications from A&E.
- Palliative Care and End of Life discharge communications.
- Data sharing.
- Shared Care and prescribing of secondary care drugs.
- Asking GPs to do follow up tests or chase up test results ordered in secondary care. Further information and agreements from the Interface group can be found in the LMC library under the folder Primary Secondary Care Interface.
Glasgow LMC also has representative seats on the Hospital Subcommittee and consults within the Area Medical Committee which is attended by both the medical Director and Chief Executive of the Board. If you have any areas of concern relating to the Interface – we would be keen to hear. Please contact the LMC office
