We are a friendly GP Training Practice located centrally in the Shawlands area. Our practice consists of 3 GP Partners, 1 salaried GP, Practice Manager, Practice Nurse, Senior Administrator, Senior Medical Receptionist and a team of 5 reception staff. The Practice also accommodates attached NHS staff in the form of a pharmacist, district nurses and health visitors.

Medical reception experience or NHS experience would be an advantage and a working knowledge of EMIS and Docman is helpful but not essential as training will be provided. As a medical receptionist in our practice, you will have a patient-focused telephone manner and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

We are seeking a professional and organised Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. This vital role involves providing excellent customer service, managing administrative tasks, and ensuring the smooth operation of the front desk. The ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanour, strong organisational skills, and previous experience in an office or administrative environment. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to patient care in a supportive and dynamic setting.

Duties

Excellent communication skills
Answering the telephone and signposting patients to the appropriate service
Greeting and assisting patients
Result handling
Dealing with delegated tasks from clinical staff and general administration.
Processing prescription requests
Receiving, sorting and scanning mail

Other duties:

Handling sensitive information in a confidential manner
Maintaining patients clinical records e.g. read coding
Communicating with all team members
Working as a team and assisting colleagues
Help to ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day running of the reception
Experience

Prior office experience is essential, preferably within a healthcare or medical environment
Administrative experience demonstrating proficiency in managing schedules, records, and communication tasks is highly desirable
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional manner
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in standard office software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
This role is ideal for organised individuals who are committed to delivering exceptional patient service while maintaining efficient administrative operations.

Flexibility to cover shifts to accommodate holiday and sickness leave is essential for the post.

Salary dependent on experience

Working hours (part-time): Thursday and Fridays 8:30am until 6pm
